FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (19-11, 1-5 SSC) look to keep the ball rolling against Eckerd (11-21, 0-6 SSC) as the Sharks host a three-game series against the Tritons at the AD Griffin Sports Complex, March 25 and 26. First pitch for Friday is slated for 7 p.m. as both teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off two regional wins against Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-2 and 5-4, on Wednesday.
NSU got 16 hits during the doubleheader as Brittany Phillips (Sr., Seminole, Fla.) and Katie Kelton (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the team with three hits. Four other Sharks posted two hits each in the game.
The team is batting .285 this season but has an incredible .393 on-base percentage.
Both Sara DeMuth (Jr., Plant City) and Devin Higginbotham (Sr., Palatka, Fla.) both earned wins and Lexi Sarradet (Sr., Miami, Fla.) recorded her third save of the season.
DeMuth ranks 25th in the nation with 99 strikeouts according to the National Ranking Summery that came out on March 22.
About Eckerd
The Tritons are 11-21 on the season and have been held winless in Sunshine State Conference play, falling to Florida Southern and Barry in both three-game series.
Kirsten Cox is the Eckerd leading hitter, posting a .323 batting average. Chelsea Jeffares is the Tritons' RBI leader with 14.
In the circle, Kaitlyn Dougherty holds the lowest earned run average ( 3.21) and leads the team with five wins.
The Series vs. Eckerd
The first game on Friday will mark the 32nd meeting between the two teams. NSU spanked the Tritons in the Spring Invitational at the end of February, 11-2, in five innings.
Higginbotham tossed a complete game, holding the Tritons to two runs in 5.0 innings of work for her first win of the season. The righty scattered eight hits, while only walking one.
NSU came out on fire in the home half of the first as they batted around the lineup, scoring seven runs.
As a team the Sharks pounded out 12 hits in the victory.
